Airborne (Drone) Surveys

In-house drone operations conducted by our fully insured pilots, approved by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)

Rapid, safe, accurate data collection and aerial inspections on larger sites.

Drones now feature as an important tool in the arsenal of the modern surveyor, collecting data in otherwise out-of-reach places and areas of high-risk, such as motorways, offshore islands and dilapidated structures. All of our drones are equipped with the latest sensors and cameras to enable rapid, safe and accurate collection of 3D ground data, as well as aerial photographs at exceptional clarity and resolution.

Our Survey Drones

Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) utilises the return period of a pulsed laser to measure points and ground features at high resolution and accuracy, collecting over 300 points per sq. metre and providing a cost-effective method of surveying vast sites quickly and accurately. We can mount LiDAR sensors to our drones. Previous projects have ranged from solar and wind farm developments to open croft and moorland, for the purposes of 3D mapping and cultural heritage identification. We are also able to survey thickly vegetated or wooded areas rapidly, effectively reducing the time spent on-site by multiple days, and on larger sites multiple weeks.

Our Inspection Drones

We also utilise our drones for asset management and inspections. One of our CAA approved pilots can perform an inspection from a safe distance, eliminating the need for additional safety equipment, whilst remaining completely free of harm. No need for expensive cranes, scaffolding rigs and working at height permits. We can provide rapid, real-time assessment with detailed video and photographic information, and thermal imaging technology (thermology).

For example, our thermal cameras can be used to spot missing or damaged installations, water under roof membranes, external electrical issues, failed windows, and many other problems. The variety of clients we have worked with is broad: from individual domestic customers seeking to identify problems with their home, to energy and utility companies looking to identify faulty installations (e.g. powerlines), and to therefore pre-empt potential problems before they have had chance to properly develop.
